It begins like nothing else before The doom of millions here and more That thing you've been fearing, but never felt nearing, all your life Is here and the sight Is dreadful, exciting, a head full, inviting All of the wrong people in For all of the wrong reasons, this war This life, this is all we have of life, and it's about to begin Some things are about to end Carry on and carry with, with the feeling of delight For whatever befalls you otherwise to the world you are a jar Filled with clear light So we are one in spirit, we are one in heart We cannot change the lower roadway we cannot delete the start Fling yourself down into the darkness You have no choice, your voice Is silent choked with horror at the starkness One spark and the mess, the sight springs to new heights Some things are about to end Such a long abandoned home No refuge to be found that's clear A slowing glowing growing sphere Knowing we're on our own out here Foreboding blockade, embracing your fear The years of the elite long vanished And identity transformed for the tribes of the continent And passions aroused so swift and so violent

Tranquility was once At the heart of these fields Generations turned over The great wheel Raison d'entre To continue to be Forever expanding Immortality At that moment the world stood silent and dark Despite the suns light despite the slight spark Of emotion of hope from the least frivolous of men Something is beginning which may have no end It was astounding, we were simply cut down Thousands on thousands if you slipped you might drown Or be crushed under the weight of the bodies there We were sent to attack we tried not to care You will not know peace, a voice said to me Lines being drawn immutably The greatest commanders they draw or we drop To begin is easy no one knows how to stop And so it was then it continues to be A great grip of fear, of anxiety Came swiftly came quickly and tightly around me The orders are given, race to the sea Race to the sea There is no example I can think of besides The taking of samples The making of pesticides We didn't know then But we learned in a flash Far from framing fantastic Freedom fell fast thick with ash They would never find us They would never know our names Shaking hands with a dead man Geometric war games The day goes on forever the night I know however Is something we cannot fear We loved the stars too deeply to fear the night

I thought id never feel this way again I thought I'd never think a thought so beautiful as when the charging ends We've been racing, Less understood I can't stop pacing, wondering if I could Break out without being seen Break in to a sanctuary, calm and serene Break up a soaked ill planned attempt To gain ground in a fortified wasteland We can, we can, we can get there We can get there Delicious flavor on the tongue delicious risks to be run The fun of trying to see what can or cannot be for you and me The art of knowing under the sun everything is growing dying Everything glorious exemplifying Trying, trying hard to understand The stupidity, but why should it be that This stretch of land narrow and long So hard to cross and all along We know the futility. The uselessness And for eternity when I think of you This is where you'll be In the heart of the world the fires burn bright The stakes escalate. The sleepless nights The guilt the overwhelming guilt The black masks each weekday it covers the blood spilt Covered up with, covered up with, covered up with nothing at all Nowhere to hide Nowhere to hide In the heart of the world the fires burn bright

One stop then look to the sky Think of home and intensify Your determination to live And let live that blessing is not yours to give You will never be the same We will never be the same You will never be the same We will never be the same One black thought as you realize the scope Of destruction but far from abandoning hope You are elated, you feel fated for victory Some would call that sick but me I understand the primal hate Born early and growing not straight But exponentially, exponentially, you see you see And then eventually you know Is it not horrible to be built like this? The preparations of war hold a hideous fascination for me, for you Is it not horrible to be built like this? The day goes on forever the night I know however Is something we cannot fear We loved the stars too deeply To fear the night

It Was Great 06:26
Tranquility was once At the heart of these fields Generations turned over The great wheel Raison d'entre To continue to be Forever expanding Immortality The glorious dead are in their right places The tombstones have reserved empty white spaces For so many yet are so far unknown But life inexorably takes up its own Now we look at the world it is not the same Tribes disbanded new nations new names Perfect straight lines in red black and blue Artificial constructions in more colors too Mandate darling, mandate We have several now Try to keep your cool We will do the right thing somehow Anyhow what other choice could there have been? This was never peace this is war without end The glorious dead are smiling at us The glorious dead are laughing Like thunder from Valhalla it explodes A picture of the afterlife, the slow and solemn odes The oaths we swore when we were together In the mud and the blood feeling deaf feeling cold We're broken and broken so many times over So young so spent so blank so rolled so old This was the singular point in history around which all else revolves What was and what was to be colliding very real very explosively The modern world become absurd Never before but over and over again The glorious dead The glorious dead The glorious dead

about

“Lit Again In Our Time” is a chamber funk suite for horns, drums, bass, and sprechstimme vocal written for the 100th anniversary of the armistice ending World War I on November 11, 1918. The lush horn arrangements are based on dissections, re-interpretations, re-harmonizations, and quotes of classic Black Sabbath riffs. The lyrics draw inspirations from the great war poets: Sassoon, Owen, Binyon, etc. Dense sprechstimme combined with funk grooves, aggressive jazz soloing, and modern chamber music make this an engaging -- but strange and unique -- new music suite.

“This is not peace, it is an armistice for 20 years” - Ferdinand Foch (he got it wrong by just 65 days)

"The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our life-time" - Sir Edward Grey
